Jul 21, 2023In Prospect Park, man with firearm in waistband adjust pants, shoots self in groin
PROSPECT PARK – A 38 year-old Philadelphia man is in stable condition after shooting himself in the groin Monday afternoon.
The male was working on his vehicle just off the 700 block of Chester Pike about 4:30 p.m. when the incident happened, said Prospect Park Police Chief Dave Madonna on Tuesday.
While standing up from being underneath the vehicle, he adjusted his pants as they were sagging, and pulled the trigger of a firearm in his waist band.
A single projectile struck him in the groin area. He was transported to Crozier Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
The male was lawfully carrying the firearm at that time and has a concealed carry permit, the chief said.
"A huge part of gun ownership is safety and the proper handling of firearms," Madonna said in an email Tuesday. "I would advise everyone who has a permit to carry to use a holster, and to train appropriately."
Madonna said he hopes the man recovers quickly and police wish him the best.
